I have a great aunt who is 96 years old and she lives in Elko, Nevada. Her health isn’t is the greatest condition right now, so my family and I decided it was time we went back and visited. Aunt Vera is a lady you meet you will never forget. She has a heart of gold, loves to laugh, doesn’t know a stranger, and is still sharp as a tack. Early this morning we loaded up the truck and headed south then east.

Our drive began by heading towards Medford, Klamath Falls, Lakeview, Winnemucca and then onto Elko. I will be honest and say as soon as we pasted Seven Feathers I saw nothing but the back of my eyelids! Woke up and we were about an hour from Klamath Falls. I think the drive to K. Falls is very pretty. All the different trees, vegetation, wildlife, mountains, there’s just so much to look at! I just wish I would have remembered to pack my camera! I was ticked when I realized I had went off and left it!

As I starred gazing out the window next thing I knew we were in Lakeview, now that is an interesting town! It has some very historic looking building, pretty cool looking actually that I could see. We pulled into the gas station, filled the truck up with gas. We all got out and stretched! My rear-end was definitely needing to go for a little walk! After we finished at the gas station we got a quick bite to eat at Subway, and then it was back in the truck to continue our journey.

I had a full tummy so I fell back asleep. I took advantage of having the back seat all to myself! I sprawled out and got caught up on some sleep! After a little nap I woke up and we were in the middle of no where. Lots and lots of tumble weeds EVERYWHERE! Good grief! Not much to look at. So I found myself reading a couple magazines, playing on my ipad to help pass the time and also having conversations with my parents. Next thing we were rolling into Winnemucca. Time to find another gas station and get out and stretch! Oh and find a bathroom, quickly! Ha! Winnemucca is a cute little town, very historic. There was a motorcycle rally going today, so the town was packed with people and motorcycles. Looked like a lot of fun! After stretching I went inside to get a drink. They had this really cool electronic milkshake maker, with a billon different flavors, well not really but seemed like a lot. My eyes stopped searching and got extremely big when I saw they had cotton candy flavored milkshake! I had to have one, extra thick, ahhhhhh I was in heaven! So good! After paying it was back in the truck for the last leg of the journey!

Right outside Winnemucca the weather turned extremely dark in the distance. You could see the rain coming. The further we drove the darker it got, then the raindrops starting hitting the window. It rained all the way to Elko, and it rained pretty much all evening here.

We checked into our hotel it was about 6:45 this evening when we got to our room. We all forgot what a long drive Elko is. We decided to stay in this evening and get rested up for tomorrow. Aunt Vera is living in an assisted living facility near by, so we will all get up in the morning and go visit her. She knows my parents are here, but she doesn’t know I am here as well. So needless to say I am excited to see her! Aunt Vera and my dad are extremely close, and have been his entire life. I am extremely lucky I was feeling good and able to tag along! Over the next couple of days seeing and visiting with Aunt Vera will definitely be one for the memory books. Will be tough, but so worth it!

Anyway’s it is getting late, I better start wrapping this up and getting to bed. Not sure why I am tired, I just napped and starred out the truck window all day! Ha ha! Anyway’s I hope everyone had a great Saturday! Enjoy spending time with your loved ones! Cheers!

Until next time………

One Response to Road Trip Time!

This is a long trip. However, as you mention, there is some beautiful country between here and there. Long old drive though, sounds like you slept through big chunks of it… great way to handle the drive! 🙂
