It was a pretty quiet day in room 234! Great day to walk laps around the halls and watch a couple movies! Lungs are still sounding and feeling great! Still have a few crackle sounds in my upper lobes, but other than that we are moving air! Day 12 is almost complete! Whoop whoop!
Kerry and I received an email Friday from our social worker at UW needing to verify our secondary insurance. So we had to fax some documents to them, so a PA can be sent off. To have a lung transplant just for the surgery, can cost between half a million to a million dollars. Not including post transplant medications, or routine check up visits. So even though I am very lucky to have dual insurances it still won’t cover the surgery at 100%. Kerry and I will still have to pay a pretty big portion of the bill. Also once I am released from UW after transplant I have to live within a short distance from UW for at least three months. It could even be longer than three months, but minimum stay is three months. I will have to live with a caregiver during this time while I heal and recovery from my transplant. So Kerry, my parents and I will have to find a small furnished apartment in Seattle, while still keeping our home in Winston as well. Hence the reason for our fundraiser. We will be hosting our fundraiser to help pay for the transplant, living expenses, and post transplant care as well.
As far as my caregivers go Kerry and my parents will do shift work. Each person will come and stay for a week or two and then someone else will come and stay, so on and so on. I cannot be left alone at all, I have to have someone with me 24/7. I understand it is difficult for one person to take an entire three months off from their job. Plus it will give each person a nice little break from having to take care of me all the time! Ha ha. In order to qualify to a be a caregiver you had to meet the team of surgeons, sit through an interview with the social workers and also the dietician. Then you had to sit through a two hour class. It was pretty interesting!
I’m still open to ideas on auction items! If you have an idea or would like to donate please email me at justbreathejendwight@gmail.com. Well looks like dinner has arrived, better finish my vest so I can eat! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Until next time…..
