As I sit here writing this blog I can’t keep my hand out of the vanilla meringue cookie bag. Man these things are good! I love sweets, learning to limit myself on sugar has been tough ha ha. You would think I would have learned my lesson last night. Was sitting on the couch watching Gold Rush next thing I knew I ate half a bag of salt water taffy! Before I went to bed I had to check my blood sugar one last time. It was 339! My mom had to give me an injection of insulin. Yikes, Probably shouldn’t do that again. Guess it’s time to put the cookies up. Ha ha.

Last night I found myself laying in bed waiting for people to walk into my room. I had a hard time adjusting to the quietness. I finally crashed and then woke up at 5 am thinking X-ray was coming. Then I realized I’m not in the hospital anymore and went back to sleep quickly. Slept until about 8:30 or so. Took my morning med’s, checked blood sugars, weighed myself, checked blood pressure, pulse, and did my in home spirometry and then I was done for the morning! Still can’t believe that’s all I have to do now in the mornings! Threw on some sweats went down and had some breakfast. The hotel puts on a very nice continental breakfast, lots of choices! Came back up to our room and just lounged for awhile. Guess you could say I adjusted to the peace and quiet! Ha ha. Took a nice long hot shower and was ready for the day!

The three of us ventured out and found a local grocery store. Had a great selection of gluten free foods. I was super excited, and went nuts! Although they were super spendy though. Coming from a small town it’s funny what we take for granted. We had to pay for parking, sales tax and groceries are more expensive in a larger town! Oh well we will make due! We were out and about for several hours. Felt great to walk around and get my exercise! Was a beautiful day up here in Seattle. The sun was shining, but the wind was chilly.

My mom cooked tacos for dinner this evening. Not going to lie a home cooked meal never tasted so good! Probably the best tacos I have ever eaten! Ha ha

Even though today was my first of freedom, I found myself multiple times looking at the clock thinking about what nebulizers needed to be done, followed by my vest. I have been doing nebulizers and chest therapy since I was two years old. So pretty much my entire life, to just let that go and not have to do it anymore is huge. I spent 8 hours a day hooked up to nebs and my vest, having a hard time making the adjustment. Just crazy to think I don’t have Cystic Fibrosis in my lungs anymore. But don’t get me wrong I LOVE being able to breathe easy now! Just an incredible feeling!! Almost indescribable at times.

Well it’s time to wind down for the evening. Who knows what day two will bring! I really need to find a nail salon my nails are driving me crazy! Ha ha. Suppose to have nice weather again would love to go for another walk! Love being outdoors!!!

Until next time………

I read your blogs almost daily. I love following your journey. Jason and I were talking and all I could think of was what your first big breath was going to feel like. When I read what you wrote when you were d/c I balled. We are all thinking of you constantly.

Jen- Be very careful when you get your nails done. Be sure that the gals are super-sanitary so you don’t have any additional health details to worry about!
Your Blog is so upbeat and inspirational. Having lost several classmates from my generation, I celebrate with you in spirit your renewed life!
