Today marks our two week lunganniversary! So crazy to think about! Today has been another productive day! Where do I start?
Our fellow CF’er Jay Starr (who is also from Winston) got the call today for his second set of new lungs! He and his wife Sheryl are back in Pittsburgh. Came through the surgery, on the vent but developed some bleeding issues and they had to take him back to surgery. They could really use all the prayers right now! Starr strong!!!
February has been one amazing month that’s all I can say! Both Jay and I received new lungs and have a new lease on life!!! Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday month!
We still have the air pocket in my left upper chest. Hasn’t changed in size, the plan right now is to watch it again over night, do another chest X-Ray and CT scan tomorrow and then make a decision. On a good note I lost another drain tube today! So I’m down to just one! Whoop whoop! Once the last drain tube comes out I have to wait 24 hours to take a shower. Man oh man a shower sounds like heaven right now! Ha ha
My main goal for the day was to NOT use any supplemental oxygen, and take the cannula out of my nose. I am happy to say I accomplished this goal. Since 8 am this morning I removed my nasal cannula, and haven’t put it back on since. That was huge for me, more mental than anything. Going from being so dependent on something, to “oh you don’t need it anymore” is a very hard task! Had to keep reminding myself several times today “yes, you can do this, it’s okay.” I successfully walked 20 laps today, and climb a flight of stairs with NO supplemental oxygen. I didn’t race up or down the stairs by any means, but hey I did it! Huge accomplishment!!! Can’t describe the feeling!!
This afternoon I received a stack of greeting cards. It was like Christmas going through and reading all of them. It totally made my day and I appreciate each and everyone of them! Thank you very much!
Since today is my fourteenth day in the hospital I have completed my course of IV antibiotics. So I’ve been off my leash today! I have to say it’s been nice not pushing one extra thing around!
Well the nurse is getting ready to come in. Time to check blood sugars and take bedtime med’s! Hope everyone is having a good week!
Until next time……..
